Unable to debug application IDEA 11.1.4 on OS X 10.8.2
I updated (also downloaded a new copy) to IDEA ultimate 11.1.4 and the debugger no longer works. The symptom is that when starting a debugging task, even on a simple "hello world", application will simply hang in the debugger after this command is executed (and consequently the only output printed in the console):
(using jdk 6 update 37)

This is the simple class:
public class Hello {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("hello");
}
}
So, quick rundown:
Reverting to 11.1.3 works fine.
I have no firewall running.
I have no breakpoints set (and they are also muted to clear all that up).
Attempting to connect to the debug port (1592) with telnet yields no response.
Netstat shows no port open on 1592.
Running jps in a terminal will simply print: "Could not synchronize with target" so I can't get the PID for a thread dump via jps.
Getting the PID manually and exectuing jstack will simply print out this message (of course the number 1378 was the PID of that specific run).
1378: Unable to open socket file: target process not responding or HotSpot VM not loaded
The -F option can be used when the target process is not responding
Let me know of anything else I can give you.

Well Maxim. I fired up 11.1.4 today to get you a log file. Guess what? What always happens? It's working now and I don't know why. Yesterday I cleaned up all the caches and did everything I could think of and it wouldn't work. And now, the next day on a machine that wasn't even rebooted since my last failed attempt at getting it working, is now working.
But, I am attaching yesterday's log file. The time frame you should be looking at is from 9:00:00 to 11:00:00. I do see some plugin errors like:
012-11-06 09:26:39,363 [1141575] ERROR - lij.debugger.impl.InvokeThread - java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jetbrains.plugins.clojure.debugger.ClojurePositionManagerFactory PluginClassLoader[org.intellij.clojure, 0.4.512]
java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jetbrains.plugins.clojure.debugger.ClojurePositionManagerFactory PluginClassLoader[org.intellij.clojure, 0.4.512]
I did remove that plugin (La Clojure) when I was removing everything I could think of. So, perhaps that is/was the issue? I just say that because the word "debugger" is in that class' package name.
Sorry if this was a false alarm. But, that exception is/was not displayed in the IDE though. I can try and install that plugin again (if I can find the exact version I had installed) to see if it breaks.

I can replicate this problem: with La Clojure installed on a Mac I can't debug from Intellij, without the plugin I can. Thanks for identifying that!
I'm glad it helped you. I do notice that if I re-enable the plugin, my debugger is broken. So, there is definitely an issue with the La Clojure plugin clobbering the debugger.
But, it's also nice to hear there is another Clojure person out there.
Exactly same problem here. I started to play with (La)Clojure this weekend and found out today that debugging Java didn't work. I do wonder if I had the plugin on before just never used it and that things went wrong after actually using it, but that's sort of a shot in the dark. Regardless, when I uninstall the plugin, the problem goes away.
