VSS does work extremely slow

Hi...

just startet to use Idea6 (before 5.1.2) and experience severe problems with
VSS (6). In fact Idea6 is completely unusable for us. We have only the src
and test folders under VSS, not the other stuff under the module root (e.g.
libaries, configs etc). IDEAs VSS setup dialog was same as in 5.1.2, but on
all operations there is now a huge time involved in accomplishing it. Some,
e.g. cheking in a single file, seem to hang forever (albeit I checked it
out with IDEA just a minute before). Interesting: when I killed ss.exe e.g.
on show diffs the changes appear! My guess is that Idea6 attempts additional
vss operations amd does not check the vss paths mapped into the module.
Rather it always assumes the whole module directory tree to be under source
control which apparently hooks up ss.exe in senseless operations. An
indicator for me is that the changes tab is full of changes that are not at
all under VSS control.

Any Idea if I can set up the vcs integratyion differently to solve this
issue?

Ciao

Hi...

hmm, looks like the same problem is still in build 6068. I wait already for
minutes for a file to be checked out, the changes tab is crowded with items
that seem to be in some update procedure. A ss.exe background process is
running all the time occupying one CPU and working with VSS is virtually
impossible.

In version 6068 is functioning quite well for me, but I disabled the option
"Synchronize files on frame activation".
After your post I have also made some new test and I have noted the problem
you posted only on the first VSS operation that I made after a project open,
then until opening of another project the problem disappear and the VSS seem
working well.
I worked for the last days on the same project, so I never noted the problem
before.

The problem on change list remain and as workaround I created a new list
and set as active, so all the new modifications will go in that clean list.

Ciao,

Roberto

ps: Sorry for my bad english

One more information: when I open a project the changes view is empty and
in the process explorer I can see a ss.exe process under idea.exe, if i kill
that process the changes view in few seconds is refresh and VSS is OK.

Hi Roberto...

thanks for all the infos, I will give it another spin later today! Killing
of ss.exe I tried as well but it fires up again after a second or so each
time I killed it. It probably will help me when I do your change list trick.

Thanks again!
