5594 feedback Project file scanning still an a big problem

At least for me and my project.

It uses lots of generated code that need to be part of the project for compiles to work.

The generated code is use created using Ant outside of IDEA. When I switch back to IDEA I have to wait too long and endure many repeated "file scanning" dialogs.

While my project might not be idealy organized, this performance makes using IDEA highly problematic for me.

This was better for a while but got bad again in 5581 when I posted "Project file scanning in 5581 beta not so good"

Are there any plans to address this issue, or it is something I'll have to try to learn live with?

I'd be happy to provide additional info.

+1 #5706 also suffers from synchronization badly after running cvs update

Good news again. But what about when there are no external changes? When I start intellij, just getting to the welcome windows takes a good long time. But that aside, when I open my project with no external changes, I am still sitting there watching the progress dialog run for 90 seconds. Loading Local VCS, Scanning, Updating Javascript index, Saving Local VCS, then a blank pause for about 20 seconds, and finally it opens.

Should I expect that process to go quicker on my dual xeon workstation? It is still everyone's desire here to see the whole progress dialog hide in the background for just about everything that goes on.

...I did just try btw disabling Local VCS and Open Project goes down to under twenty seconds. But local vcs is one of the best features in IDEA and I certainly don't want to lose it...

Hello Nat,

Unfortunately such reports without any details are not really helpful. What
would be helpful is either a CPU snapshot of a problematic CVS synchronization
or a thread dump taken at the moment when the UI is not responsive during
CVS update.

Hello t800t8,

t> I found JRE 1.5 update 9 here:
t> http://www.computerbase.de/downloads/software/browser/java_runtime_en
t> vironment/ but not JDK :(

I wonder if you are able to find IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 on some weird site somewhere
in the Internet...

Sun hasn't yet released update 9 for JDK.

I figured I would post back positive feedback to this on-going thread about file indexing and Windows handle usage in today's 5755 build... So much better JetBrains!!! MUCH

Build 5755 (RC3) uses less than 2000 handles for the same project where previous builds where using 10k+ in matter of minutes. Much better.

Not to mention that the indexing and overall UI responsiveness on my two dev boxes feel much better. Idea 6.0 is now the joy it should be to use again.

Today was the first time I felt I could recommend to my direct manager to upgrade our licenses from 5.x to 6.0.

Great job JetBrains!

Hello t800t8,

t> Now you can have it: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Hmm. If the release notes are correct, the only issues fixed in update 9
are three Windows LAF bugs.
