Deployment status inaccurate when using IntelliJ 9 to run Weblogic 12(c)

When I run or debug my web application on WebLogic Server 12(c) using IntelliJ 9, the deployment status is always set to red i.e. error.

Even if the application has been deployed successfully and there are no error messages or stack traces whatsoever, the status is always red. Refreshing the deployment status, does not help.

I am not sure how this status is obtained. The same application on JBoss 5 used to reflect accurate status, i.e. green for no errors, red for errors.

Obviously using WebLogic has messed this somehow. I am using the standard Weblogic Plugin that comes with IntelliJ 9 to create the configuration. There is no contact information for that plugin and the author is JetBrains.

Any thoughts on how to correct this problem and have IntelliJ show me the correct deployment status?

Thanks.

WebLogic Server 12 was released two years after IDEA 9 so it isn't surprising that it isn't properly supported. You can download a trial version of
IDEA 11.1.2 which should work with WebLogic 12.

I downloaded IntelliJ 11.1.2 and tried it out.

I am still seeing the status as Error - "Artifact is not deployed. Press 'Deploy' to start deployment".

However, this time around even though the application is deployed and functioning, and the WebLogic console application says that the status is good, I got a stack trace once the deployment was complete:

I had not seen such a stack trace in IntelliJ 9 and WebLogic 12.

My test applications are deployed fine on WebLogic 12 with IDEA 11.1.2, so it looks like the issue is specific to your configuration.

Actually, the error message tells that you are trying to deploy a web application to the context ('/foobar') which is already occupied by another web application.
I was able to reproduce similar message by creating 2 EARs, both containing the same web application, and deploying both EARs to the WebLogic 12.

I suspect, you have an older copy of your artifact already deployed to WebLogic, yet it is not recognized as the same artifact on next deploy (possibly, due a renaming),  which causes conflict.

I would propose you to do the following:
- start WebLogic (either with IDEA or directly)
- remove all the artifacts with the administation console
- stop WebLogic
- start WebLogic run configuration with your artifact set for deployment

If this will not help, I'll need from you the following:
- your project (or at least a minimal project on which the issue is reproducable)
- screenshot(s) of WebLogic administation console showing artifacts deployment status
- screenshot of the run configuration tool window once the error message is produced
- complete text content of the Output tab of the run configuration tool window

Regards,
Michael

We have constant deployment issues with the latest IntelliJ Ultimate and WebLogic 10.3.4. I'm a long time user of IntelliJ and for many years I've stuck with remote debugging b/c of all the issues I've experienced with IntelliJ and WebLogic in the past. I only tried a local deploy in IntelliJ b/c I wanted to test the Javascript debugging which to date doesn't work for any of us.

Despite deploying correctly as reported in the server log IntelliJ always reports an error status in the deployment pane, fails to launch the browser with the start page configured in my run configuration and never display the Scripts debugger pane. I'm not sure what else to try since the EAR was deployed correctly and we can debug Java code. Frustrating to say the least for those of us stuck with WebLogic.

For what its worth this is my startup log in IntelliJ 11. I observe different behavior/errors depending on whether I try to use the WebLogic deployer or autodeploy but it never behaves the way I expect. It will deploy and I can debug Java but the deployment pane always shows failure, the browser never launches and Javascript debugging never works.

The screenshot is from another attempt to deploy our exploded EAR file. Again, it deployed successfully and I can debug Java code but the deployment pane shows failure, browser never launches and no Javascript debugging. This might work for simple applications but forget about complex EARs. Our project includes more than 100 developers and not one of us has this working in IntelliJ.

I love IntelliJ, far and away my favorite Java IDE, but this is a glaring weakness that's existed for quite some time.

A state update button should be added, wl state is different that the presented by intellij, so it tries to re-deploy an exploded war that is no longer deployed, so it fails... I have the subscription, and this is the second show stopper I have found before I have to deliver... I already stopped recomending.

This issue has been fixed long time ago: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-97784

@lmdbluis could you please give more details about this issue at https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/IDEA for us to investigate including the full textual output from Run(Debug or Services) tool window after startup and deploy and reproducing the problem and a screenshot of the tool window with the deployment status. Thank you.
