Need Eclipse like maven goals menu for Idea

Hi , I am an Eclipse user and I like the way eclipse shows the maven goals when we right click the project . (Ex: Run as Maven install..).

At the same time I am not comfortable with the maven goals menu which Idea shows

Is there a way that I can get the look and feel for maven goals for Idea as in case of eclipse(just right click the project and Run as ....) ?

Thanks
Suresh

While not directly what you are looking for, the third party Maven build-this-module plugin is useful. By default it is accessed via the Build menu. But you can map a keyboard shortcut to it. It opens a small dialog in which you just type the goal(s) you want to run (such as 'package') and it runs it for the current module. Sorry, I forgot that the dialog box with the ability to specify the goalto run was an enhancment made by a co-worker. (He's going to see about publishing that change.) The avaiable plug-in simply runs the install command for the current module.

Also, don't forget you can create Maven run configuration and get quick access to it via either the run drop down or Alt+Shift+F10

Hi Mark, thanks for your message.

Could you please let me know how to create a new maven run configuration and to get the quick access to run drop down ?

Are there any docs or steps so that I can create it ? Any links would be helpful.

I installed Maven build-this-module , but it didnt work out when i invoke that action

Thanks

Hi Suresh,

There's a few different ways you can do it. Rather than typing it out here, below is a link to a screencast on running Maven builds I did for new users ay my office. In it, I show how you can create maven run configurations and other maven related things. (I cover creating run configurations mid way through, but if you are new to IDEA, I think you will find the full video informative. At least I hope so :))
