Hello Eric,

It's under the "Edit" menu now.

Hi all - what happened to the Search menu in IDEA 11 EAP?

Hi, Eric!

Menu was restructured. Part of Search menu is now under Edit | Find. To find an action use Ctrl + Shift + A.

Hope that helped you.

I really wonder why this was changed.
The Find menu has quite a lot entries and is frequently used.
It also seems to be standard main menu item in other editors (that don't yet use ribbons).
It also can't be an issue of screen estate - currently the main menu items are about 640 wide - surely nobody is developing on such a screen resolution.
So: Why???

Personally I don't care that much, because I have internalized the shortcuts anyway.

Hello Stephen,

It is indeed an issue of screen real estate on Macs. When the menu bar shares
its space with notification icons, clock, user name and other miscellaneous
gadgets, we really want to reduce its width.

Also, we don't believe that anyone actually uses the Search menu to invoke
any actions (keyboard shortcuts for Find/Replace and the context menu for
Find Usages are so much easier to use). Therefore we don't think that moving
it into a submenu presents any usability drawback.

Ah, the Mac GUI - I didn't think of that. Thanks for the explanation.
Macs used to be a minority, but nowadays in certain circles (web/RIA development) I feel a little alien with my Dell notebook (even if it is more powerful).
