What is this feature?

This has been driving me crazy for a while. Sometimes when I'm editing a
file, IDEA automatically tries to make variables in the code into static
instances from other classes. This happens if I accidentally remove a brace
or something. It seems IDEA is trying to auto-correct bad code. How the heck
do I turn this off?
