Any chance of improving file encoding support?

Referring to this old feature request:
http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEABKL-845

...any chance it might get implemented?

A visual indication of the file encoding (e.g.: "UTF-8", with perhaps "Unix" or "DOS" appended depending upon file encoding), and the possibility to click on that indication to change the format of the file when next saved, would be very much appreciated...

Thanks,
Chris

It is not exactly what you are asking for, but check out the File Status Bar plugin. It
sets the status bar to display a string including the encoding of the file in the current
tab. Another option is the File Info plugin. It shows the encoding among other file
information in a dialog box.
