WindowsXP Remote Desktop Editor Scrolling broken in 3200

There seems to be a nasty bug with IntelliJ build 3200 when used over a windows Remote Desktop Conneciton.

This worked fine in 4.5.3 build 2246 and previous versions of IDEA.

Setup: Remote machine has Windows XP SP2. Local machine has Windows XP SP2.

Problem: After connecting to remote desktop, if I try to scroll the Editor Pane with the page up/page down, clicking on the scrollbar, or using the mouse wheel, sometimes only part of the page scrolls while the rest of the editor pane isn't updated. (See attached screenshot -- notice the line numbers...)

I'm wondering what could have changed in IDEA to cause this not to work anymore? Is it a new JDK or the Editor Pane scrolling/repaint code was rewritten?

I tried turning off the Editor->Smooth Scrolling option and it had no effect on the problem.

I just found a wierd workaround. If I have some other program which 'stays on top' of the IDEA window, even if it doesn't cover the Editor Pane, then the problem goes away.

Must be some wierd interaction between Java and Remote Desktop Connection, but something changed in Irida, because as I said 4.5.3 and earlier versions never has this problem. I also use many other prograsm through Remote Desktop and no problems.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help isolate the cause of the problem.

This is still happenning to me in 3242, but I have found a workaround.

The scrolling bug appears to only happen if I leave IntelliJ IDEA running on my desktop at work, and then later login remotely to the desktop using Windows Remote Desktop.

I found that when the problem happens, if I close and restart IntelliJ, then the scrolling works correctly.
There's a bug in there somewhere, but at least I have a workaround now.

Also, if do access IntelliJ through a Windows Remote Desktop, VNC, etc. I reocmmend turning off Editor->Smooth Scrolling. The Smooth Scrolling makes scrolling/paging very slow because it trys to refresh many more times. Also, incremental search is very slow with smooth scrolling. The difference is like night and day overa a 1 MBit/sec remote connection.

Good information. Thanks.

My problem with scrolling is that it does not work with my ThinkPad
scroll button.
