Objective-C Support : still on the cards?
I was just wondering whether the Objective-C support is still planned to
be released at some point. I know it was only in its early stages back
in April, has there been any development since then?
Although I'd like to get into iOS development, I have kind of been
holding back investing in a Mac etc. as I figured my favourite IDE may
start supporting it sometime soon, but if that's going to be a long time
coming I can factor that into my plans...
Cheers,
N.

Hello Nathan,
Yes, the Objective-C support is currently under active development. Note
that it will be a separate IDE, not part of IntelliJ IDEA.

Not part of IDEA Ultimate?
That's a great pity ...

Hi Dmitry,
Brilliant news! No problem it being a separate IDE at all, I'd imagine
you'd want to charge for it.
Is there any idea of a time frame for release or EAP?
Thanks,
Nathan.
Our Objective-C support relies on the Apple toolset, which only works under MacOS X. We can't include platform-specific features in IntelliJ IDEA.
Hi dear
while all object-C programmers are on Mac, there is a lot of C programmers elsewhere, and as Objective-C is a superset of C, i expect many to use IDEA's perfect tooling to develop C programs
please consider this issue
Thanks
Joe
Hello joe,
We don't see any significant market for a pure C IDE without C++ support,
and we do not have any plans to implement C++ support at the moment.

Same question here. :) How long can we get the EAP of Object-C IDE?
Hello linux_china,
We'll announce the EAP when it's ready.

Ok dear
i 'm sure you 've did a market analysis, and it's your decision after all
but can you make a minimal effort to make this IDE run on windows and support compiling c programs with gcc, just in case some c programmers who are in love with IDEA want to pick another IDE
as i said it is your decision and i cannot say to you to put resources on a nonsense subject for u, but it is just a wish
thanks
Joe
Where's the best place to watch for the announcement regarding the Objective-C IDE EAP from JetBrains? I'm following @jetbrains, @intelliyole, @ptibird on twitter; visiting jetbrains.com occasionally. Are there better places?
Thanks,
Steve
Are you using the Cocoa framework to write it?
Hello Rayz,
No. It's based on the IntelliJ Platform and uses the same UI framework as
IntelliJ IDEA.

Fairynuff.
But will you be able to share projects withh users who are still on XCode?
Hello Rayz,
Yes, of course. We don't have our own project format - we use XCode projects.

@Dmitry : Understand your stance that you will depend on the Apple toolset and thus Objective-C IDE only makes sense on the Mac and thus you want to spin a separate product, no problem with that.
It would be great if you can target your current customers, i.e. Java programmers (using IDEA) who also code in Objective-C and give your IDE more "java" feel. I wish such IDE can hide separate .h and .m files and keep them in sync for you, providing you with the same easy, efficient way to design classes as in Java, just using Objective-C syntax. That would be awesome.
Hello Pavel,
Of course our Objective-C IDE will have many features to make it convenient
to update the .h and .m files in sync, switch between them and so on. However,
we don't have any plans to hide their existence and pretend that the language
looks different from what it really is. It would create far more problems
than it would solve.
