I wonder if that was 4.5.3 or Irida, which hasn't reached a completely
workable maturity yet (understandable in any fairly new EAP).

Personally I work with Irida right now because of my JavaScript
involvement, and Irida adds some support for it.

You might consider voting for this enhancement. It might not help your specific case but it may help in general to prevent an app thats puking on stdout from killing the whole box.
