Turn on speed enhancing capabilities? :-)

Hi Jetbrains folk!

I love taking part in the EAP and I expect it to not work or be slow or have
bugs etc. That is all part of the process and it's a joy to be involved.

But I do wonder what you guys do at the start of each EAP to make Idea
suddenly become so slow. It is almost like there is a switch 'Turn off speed
enhancing capabilities' that is activated before releasing the EAP?!? ;)

It now takes 5 minutes to start up and open my project. It seems to be
copying and indexing evrything but for some reason during EAP it takes that
little bit longer? Don't even get me started on the time it takes to switch
projects and the way it freezes my machine up...

Keep the new and improved features coming!

Scott

Totally off-topic really, but I just switched to running IDEA with java 5.0, and it FLYES! I mean, since I got the new box IDEA already flyes, but this is ridiculous. Are you IntelliJ folks testing IDEA on 5.0 already? So far the only few negatives are slightly off rendering of the menues, some reflective access to a field called 'focusedComponent', but nothing that gets in my way.

Sun has done a really good job with 5.0.

Hello Scott,

Weird as it may sound, I find 3084 quicker than the latest Pallada build. I was surprised to see it finishing loading the project so quicly, after getting used with looong waits in Pallada. 38 modules (out of which 4 are web modules) in my project.

Now it might be that the caches Pallada used were getting too big (I worked on the same project for quite a while) and that Irida is snappier with a newly built cache, but, for me, the experiece is a pleasant one. :)

Best,
Andrei

Andrei,

I guess I must just be lucky or something! ;)

And I just have to confirm - this in no way reduces the pleasantness of my
experience using the EAPs or Idea in general! I am still developing with
pleasure, just a bit slowly sometimes... I am just worried that it is
putting my colleagues off of Idea - when they come over to my desk with a
question and I have to switch projects which is taking ages at the moment!
The company standard is Eclipse and I am fighting a long battle to convince
everyone here of the greatness of Idea if they just get past the fact it
costs money. :)
