What's next?
So what great features can we look forward to in the next release?
I'd like to see a way to consume web services easily. WSDP integration
would be nice. Anyone know of a plugin for this?
I'd also like to see many more gui builder improvments. Being able to set
the fonts, colors, icons, etc. A menu and tool bar builder would also be
nice.

+1. for CVS integration
Is there a request to vote for?

Sorry, I really meant moving it to backgorund
The one biggest thing I'd ask for is to stop paying so much attention the users.
IDEA 4.x has far less of a wow factor because of all the idiots who just migrated from jbuilder and whatnot and now want the same old crap in IDEA.
In the end, you guys have the talent and ability to decide ultimately what sort of cool 'core' features are doable. This thread is a perfect example of the fact that there's a significant portion of users who are, for all intents and purposes, brain-damaged.
Also, please ignore the voting results. The subversion votes is a perfect example of how broken that is. Thousands of votes from a very small number of zealots.
As for my list, the only thing I'd love is bugfixes. All of these are cross-platform.
1) Focus/progress bar issues: Flashing once for every web/ejb/j2ee module is bound to trigger epilepsy and you'll get sued by anyone developing a big app with many modules.
2) Remember the selected module/tab in project properties.
3) Horrible memory leaks when working with multiple projects and opening/closing them. When a project is closed, ALL its stuff should be unloaded.
4) A saner approach to bugreporting. Right now the volume is too high, and a lot of important stuff slips through the cracks. Open bugs get fixed but remain open in tracker. Important bugs get ignored in the noise. Ultimately what people will realise (and have been doing) is that whining here is far more effective than filing an SCR.

Really? .... I'm not so sure that that is such a wise course of action.

It certainly did lack 'the wow factor' as you put it... :(

Definitely. The best way to judge what should go into IDEA, is to see what is being used by the Java Community at large. Developers that take part in EAPs will probably be using other 'bleeding edge' bits of technology that they think should be supported. As we've seen with AspectJ, this is not always a good idea.

Not to mention the fact that the PC is effectively locked up whilst all this is going on.
I have to agree that a freeze on new features would be a good idea, whilst some of the more serious bugs are sorted out.

and don't pay so much attention to Hani - he's also a user
what exactly is so bad in a subversion integration?
Sometimes, in moments of temporary insanity, I'll be thinking of a variable name and hit Ctl+Space and be a tiny bit disappointed when Idea doesn't read my mind.
That I'd even begin to have that thought is a testament to how good this piece of software is...
Anyone ever hit ctrl+space in MS Word or Outlook. For a second it's like heaven... and then reality kicks in... It's not IDEA.
... then I usually start pondering... what if I wrote an Outlook plug-in, or one for Word... finally I come back as my manager smaks me asking where the bug-fix he wanted is!

O yeah, I know exactly what you mean (see http://www.intellij.net/forums/thread.jsp?forum=22&thread=28264&message=471841&q=626f6f6b#471841 for even worse troubles)
