Keyboard navigation

On the IDEA feature list it states that "100% of features available without using the mouse". If this is really true, how do you replace the mouse in the following situations:

1. In the Project window, if you have the "Structure View" turned on, how do you move the focus between the two subwindows? I think I remember that this was possible in an earlier version, but I seem to have forgotten the key combination.

2. In one of the projects I work on, I have a C/S application, and I am concurrently debugging the server and the client which gives me two debug windows. How do I navigate between these two? (The context menu suggests Alt-Left/Alt-Right, but that only navigates between the tabs within one debug window.)

3. Is it possible to resize tool windows or the separators between split editor windows or tab groups without the mouse?

Can anyone enlighten me on how to get these to work with just the keyboard? Otherwise I think that at least points 1 and 2 are worth tracker entries.

Regards,
Jens

Here are a couple more:

4. Keyboard navigation between tabs in the "nested" tab groups for JSR45/Tomcat/WebLogic server run/debug configurations seem to be impossible.

5. Likewise in the corresponding "Default configuration" dialogs for both the nested as well as the "outer" (Local vs. Remote) tab groups.

6. In the Tomcat/WebLogic run/debug configuration (and the corresponding default configuration windows), the mouseless editing of the startup and shutdown scripts seems to be impossible (interestingly, when "use default" is checked, a tooltip saying "AltEnter" appears which does not work however; when "use default" is off, "AltEnter" has no effect either).

7. In any Run/Debug configuration Tab, you cannot add a Configuration without clicking the "" (even though the "" or the "Insert" keys would be obvious keyboard shortcuts here).

8. Similarly, in the "Path" settings, it doesn't seem possible to add a module just with the keyboard.

9. In the same window, I cannot change the "Absolute/relative paths" setting for files outside project file dir without the mouse. Neither can I change the language level nor add or remove a content root.

10. The other tabs of the "Path" settings page contain even more weaknesses and inconsistencies regarding keyboard navigation.

I am sure this list is still far from complete. Maybe the text on the feature list should be changed to "97% of features available without using the mouse"?

Jens

This was mostly true once but, sadly, keyboard support has been declining
recently. I'd really like to see a renewed focus on keyboard access in
v5.0.
