dvorak anyone?
hi,
i tried using another keyboardlayout, but idea seems to mess up some of the hotkeys. if i press ctrl & n (dvoraked), everything is fine, but ctrl & z (also dvoraked) openes a "find text"-dialog. any ideas what is happenig?

got the same problem when assigning hotkeys - i press "p", which is "z" in dvorak (german edition), but the "keystoke"-textfield shows a small "L"

The way to avoid this sort of trouble is to put the Dvorakness in
keyboard firmware. The OS and apps think you have a QWERTY.
See http://mindprod.com/bgloss/dsk.html
There are still some problems. Some combos are easy to key in QWERTY
and awkward for DSK.
My Kinesis keyboard has firmware marcros, so I can map easy-to-key
combos to hard to key ones, and the software never knows anything
about it.

that makes no sense. i switched the layout at os level, it is supposed to work that way

ctrl-z to more than one action since switching layouts?

It depends who does the keyboard remapping. If a tiny computer inside
the keyboard does it, the OS and the apps know nothing about it. If
the OS does it in the keyboard driver then you have problems such as
you described.
The essay I pointed you to describes some of the problems with OS
keyboard mapping, including difficulty configuring BIOS, since the OS
is not present to help you. Another is you must solve the remap
probem for each OS. Another (less so today) is apps reach down too far
toward the iron, and bypass the remap. Another is using other people's
machines. They get hostile if you reconfigure, or even block you.

You may be getting interference from other keystroke-intercepting
programs like Allchars or ClipMate.

Careful with your attributions now: I'm not experiencing any problems at
all, thank you very much :)
