How does "Check for new version" work ?

I have a "Check for new version" option set to "Check automatically" in Settings -> IDE -> General. So far I've never seen it doing anything useful and upgraded manually all EAP builds. Does it recognize only major IDEA relases ?

Yup, that's true.

Hmm, then I guess I can disable it because checking daily for EAP builds works a slightly better than this :)

BTW, as i know, it disigned as EAP feature...

i think if you want to know about eap releases you listen to the eap announce topic. This feature is for official releases.

In fact, that's the point - can't it be done so that EAP-ers will be notified about new builds ? Especially now, after release, when EAP is over (?) and we have no way to know about new builds except downloading and reinstalling the release and checking the "About" box .. Or reading forum and seeing people mentioning new build.

New "Check for EAP builds" option would be astonishing, I guess.

This would probably require a way to identify a build as a production build
or an EAP build. Most production users would not want to get the most
recent EAP build, but most EAPers would want to be on the bleeding edge.

if (build.production) {
// look for most recent production build
} else if (build.eap) {
// bring it to papa
}
