Co-existing with Mac OS keyboard shortcuts

How do other people using IntelliJ on a Mac handle keyboard shortcuts that mean something in Mac OS and in IntelliJ? The OS handles those keystrokes. The one I use all the time is Shift-F6 (rename), on a Mac this causes a slow motion Spaces display. I looked at the Mac's keyboard shortcut settings and there doesn't seem to be a way to reassign the shortcuts (I would prefer to keep IntelliJ's intact as I am very used to them).

Depending on your keyboard, you should be able to use the System Preferences: Keyboard & Mouse: Keyboard Shortcuts to reassign the keys used by Dock, Exposé, and Dashboard.

My keyboard has the additional function keys F14, F15, and F16 so I used those for F10, F11, and F12 combining them with command and alt as necessary. Simply double-click on the existing shortcut key and then press the keys you wish to replace it with.

I removed all shortcuts in the system preferences.
