Mac Problems 7.0.3 w/latest Java

I have two computers: work - dual G5 running 10.4 with all updates; home brand new iMac running 10.5.3 with all updates. On both machines after the latest Java update IDEA ran fine the first time but since then, the GUI components (buttons, text boxes, etc) of ALL Java applications no longer respond to input.

On my home machine, I tried a fresh reinstall of the OS from the factory supplied discs (10.5.2) and that didn't help. Then I bought an extra external drive (no such thing as too much disk space) and installed 10.5.2 on that and when I boot from that disk it works just fine.

Anyone run into anything like this? Suggestions on a real solution (since not patching machines is a bad idea)?

I forgot to mention. There is an exception that comes out in idea.log:
