DBHelper, CLASSPATH, and Maven-managed jars

Pardon this newbish question ...

I just installed the DBHelper plugin, and when I go to set up a database connection in it, it is unaware of any of the database driver jars that I have sitting in my ~/.m2/ directory tree, managed by Maven via a pom.xml file. I can't even use DBHelper's file browser to add the jar without moving the jar, because it doesn't see directories hidden with the dot prefix.

Is there a way of putting the Maven-downloaded jars into an IDEA CLASSPATH so that plugins like this one can find them?

I'd rather not have to manually duplicate files or specify locations when IDEA already knows about them ....
