working with jboss

Hi,
I have a servlet that works on jboss (3.08).
Is it possible to debug it with IDEA. If it is possible - how exactly? (I've
installed the jboss plugin, but...)
Thanks,
Zohar.

Hey I wrote that poor plugin :) What kind of debugging issues are you
having with it? I can debug servlets and jsp...

Let me know if I can help! :)

Best (easiest) way to do this is probably launch JBoss with the remote debugging options and then use IDEA remote debugging features.

Well, my servlet or JBoss consumes memory when let to run for a while. I
want to see if/when memory is released between consecutive invocations of
the servlet.
I figured that I first need to debug it and see if it works as I expected.
What exactly do I need to do to debug the servlet?

Nothing, what I do is setup a web-app, setup the servlet in web.xml,
follow the instructions on either wiki or sourceforge on how to setup
the jboss plugin, startup the webapp with jboss and just place your
breakpoints where you want to see/track problems, or find objects which
have not been nulled and gc'd etc...

Let me know if you need a hand.

Check your run.conf in $JBOSS_HOME/bin. Look for commented lines stating about debug settings, and uncomment them. Notice there are different settings for 1.3 or 1.4 VM. For me, the correct setting are:Later, just create a new Remote Debugging configuration on IDEA. Edit at least your host (localhost if you're running jboss on the same machine) and port (stated by the 'address' option above: 8387 for me). After that, launch jboss, wait a while and start IDEA debugging session.

If you're debugging init code (like servlets init() methods or filters) you probably want jboss to NOT start till you can start the debugging session. In that case, change the 'suspend=n' option to 'suspend=y'. That way, the program will just hang and wait till you start the debugging session.
