Project sizes?

At the risk of starting a "pissing contest", I am curious as to how big the
projects of other IDEA users out there are? It might also be enlightening
to the jetbrains team to know what us users are doing.
So to start off, my (mostly complete) project, 2923 java files compiling to
3851 classes. there are approx 21447 files total -- 0.9 GB according to the
directory properties.
And, yes, I do think this is a big project = )

Hi,

- most of the time around 1900 classes ( ~130000 lines of code)

- now and then a really big project, I forget the number of classes but around 1 million lines of code.

We used to have a "monster" class with about 10 000 lines (brr) and I remember Ariadna being pretty slow when I would open that class. Especially as it was full of yellow warnings. But I got rid of it and both IDEA and I felt much better afterwards.

Our project size is actually close to yours, Charles. We have ~2,500 java files compiling to ~3,600 classes. We also have ~1,500 JSP files (including jsp fragments).

Our largest class is currently ~7,000 lines long (and it has been split apart several times before. It just keeps growing!!).

Java files: 3,075
Java classes: 4,047
Non-Java files: 14,195

The box on which I run IDEA has a 531 MHz processor with 512 MB of memory. :(

Hi.

I have not had any problem with the number of files. Our projects are small compared to the ones mentioned here. BUT, I have had single files be to big for IDEA to index at start-up. This usually happens when my logging directory is included in the IDEA project and thereofore IDEA tries to index all the text, I assume, for any search/replace or refoactoring I might do.

files beyond 30-40 MB often cause a project not load and leave IDEA in some half loaded state. It seems quite stable if you don't mind the act that, when this happens, you can't open any files ;)

I have always assumed that this was not a bug but just something I IDEA should not be exposed to.

That's strange because we filter out all files greater than 1Mb. Is this
problem reproducable for you?

yes I can reproduce it. I work on WinXP with build896 and it happened no later than a couple of hours ago with a file over 41MB. I have had it with a number of previous builds.... not sure which.

The problem only happens when I load a project... does not seem to have an impact while the project is open and, for example, a log file fills up.
