switching CVSROOTs and CVS Excludes

Hi,

What is the purpose of the CVSROOT dialog other than for
importing of new code into CVS?
Is there a way with IDEA to switch between repositories (and sometimes commit to one, other times to the other repository)?
I have a project in which I would like to work against a repository on my local machine for minor changes and then
switch to the main cvsroot repository. The only way I
know of doing this is to use a command line client with the -d option. I know IDEA has the localcvs facility,
but it seems more of a short term proposition because of the expiration time.
As an aside, does anyone know whether it is possible to
synchronize two cvs repositories (much like merging of
individual files, when only the local file has changed,
with the addition of remembering all the revisions since some common point)?

Also, up until one of the previous EAP builds (833 or 856,
can't remember) there was an option to specify default CVS excluded files or directories - it is no longer there. Any one knows how to do this sort of thing with EAP 896?

Cheers,

Bonny

I usually do that by creating various projects and swithcing projects. They
do not share the source directories.

I am not sure I understand - do you maintain two versions
of the source separately? If so, when you switch the repositories, how do you synchronize the sources? by copying one source folder over the top of its counterpart?

imagine the following scenario: you are telecommuting or working off site for long durations. You check out from the main repository and make local changes for a couple of days, updating, adding and deleting files.
Q1: do you perform the modifications against the
local repository?
Q2: how do you synchronize the changes against the central repository? In particular, if you want to retain
the changes made and recorded against the local repository, then how do you achieve this?
