Wanna drop more :)

Does anyone use View | Editor List...?
BTW, it may be implemented as plugin.

About point 1, I would say that, if you have lots of files open, it can be difficult to find the file you're looking for.

So I think there is room for a feature to allow you to do this more easily - see my suggestion below, for example.

An aside about point 2 - it actually shows you the path, rather than the package. Showing the package might actually be useful too (or maybe instead of the path), as you might often want to visually "filter" the path to get the package.

Just when you are at the topic of "Go to", I think "Go to Class" and "Go to File" can be merge. Or perhaps just provide a checkbox to restrict it to classes.

Many a times if you click too fast ...

0

If there is a lot of files, then I would most likely to be using "Go to Class", then this feature.

And this in turn reminds me of a similar old wish of mine for a filter-facility for the project view.
The filter would allow to show

- all open files, but embedded in the project-directory-structure
- all recently openened files, structured as above
- all files changed since creation of local vcs
- all files changed during the last x days
- ...

That filter-views may be flatable to meet the popups.

This would be fine for me because I usually tend to have files and directories in my project directory structure which I seldom have to deal with. Otherwise I often work for several days only with a couple of files.

The view could be seen as a kind of "automatic workspace" (like in the equally named plugin).

With this I won't necessarily need the editor list, nor
the recent files; but I won't throw them away, either. I think plugin is a fine mode for them.

I would like to disable the opened-file-tabs for this view.

Dmitry,

Should you have more questions like this one,
may I suggest you format it in 4 messages (1 question + 3 answer
containers), like this :

message 1 :
subject: Can we drop "rename".

body : We are thinking about dropping 'Rename' / F6.
...
Please add your opinion-vote to one of the 3 replies
Yes/No/Dunno I made to this message.

Doesn't Jive Forums have a "Poll"???

me too

I do use it, but very rarely.

Someone else mentioned the use case when you have similarly named files in different paths.

Admittedly very rarely though.

You should have put this under "Re: Not sure"

why want you drop something out of the programm?if you had a feature you must not drop it because only a few couple of persons use it!?

0

Because it clutters the interface for the few thousands of users that don't use it???

Just an idea...

0

Remember the Commander discussion along similar lines some time back?

0

ditto....

Never used it. what is it for?

0

I like your idea. I love the polls, especially to remove functionality no
one uses. I started a recent ruckus with the suggestion to remove
Commander. I never did tally up the results and your format would have
allowed easier visibility to what the community feels on the subject.

So Alain....to honor your new and improved polling idea, why dont you try it
with a poll on removing Commander again.

There were some JetBrains folks, who voted for commander. And I'm afraid
that our votes are much much bigger than EAP members' ones ;)

Well, I happen to use the Commander regularly, so, I'll let the honour
to Dmitry.
And aside, I don't want to be the one that started the
"Remove the useless xxx feature"
craze.

I really like the idea of the filters. I could see myself making use of that. Of course, they will have to work out when and when not to reset the cursor and scrolling back to the top of the file.

Like Maven ? (:

for the question, I never use the editor list

0

Odd how that works out. :)

after reading the answer, maybe the question should be :
Does anyone used Editor List at least once ?

0

Well, I have actually brought up the list a few times, and saw it was not useful to me; so, I never have really used it.

In the case of Maven, never used it; can barely spell it. :)

0

Say it aint so Alain....

I regularly brag about Idea to friends and coworkers and this IDE is so
intelligent in so many areas. When I show it to people who've never used it
before, they'll ask about a feature "what's this for..." and I show them.
They say "wow." They'll ask about some other feature "how does that
work...", and I show them. And they say "awesome!".

And then they'll ask about Commander. I tell them "never mind that".
Commander is so DOS 2.1. It's like the proverbial crazy old aunt that lives
in the basement. It's probably the only feature that's embarrassing,
specifically because the rest of Idea is so damn good.

Is there like a JetBrains Supreme Court we can appeal to?

:)
