Wanna drop more :)

Does anyone use View | Editor List...?
BTW, it may be implemented as plugin.

With this I won't necessarily need the editor list, nor
the recent files; but I won't throw them away, either. I think plugin is a

fine mode for them.

Ctrl-E works nice for me, I like it. Took some time to get used to it, but
now I like it and want to drop my idea of having Ctrl-Tab for that ;))

I would like to disable the opened-file-tabs for this view.

+1 The screen is cluttered enough already

This might be of interest: http://www.intellij.net/tracker/idea/viewSCR?publicId=2618

It included an option to make the tabs auto-hideable and a button for changing from single row to multi-row. If something like that were done, I don't see why the option could not be improved further.

For example, an added button to just hide the tab bar all together; but, you could still use the button to open the tab bar if your wanted it.

Or, a multi-toggle button that alters the behaviour of the tab bar: open, auto-open/close, or closed. Then, when the bar is open, a second button for swapping between single line and multi-line.

Commander is just a sacred cow and it can't be dropped! :)
Particulary I see the psyhological tend in action the people are more active
when there's chance to break(drop) something than to discuss something new
which is not that obvious. Just see how many replies in this topic.

Commander is so DOS 2.1. It's like the proverbial crazy old aunt that

lives

in the basement. It's probably the only feature that's embarrassing,
specifically because the rest of Idea is so damn good.

Well, I happen to use the Commander regularly, so, I'll let the honour
to Dmitry.

Ok...it cant be dropped. Can someone develop a plugin to superimpose a
borderless window that floats over the Commander tab to hide it and disable
any keystrokes that might invoke it?

:)

I don't use it often (quite rarely indeed), but when I have to move a lot of
classes to different packages, Commander is very very usefull !

Would you use it if Ctrl-E had a tooltip showing the full path or package name as you moved between files?

This is a question about the functionality as it stands at the moment.

If the functionality isn't considered good, then one option may be to remove it.

Another option is to improve it so that it is useful. And I can certainly see room for improvement for when I'm trying to locate an open file when many files are currently open.

I have not used it ever either, but I think it has the potential to easily solve an issue that I think was discussed before: Reordering of the editor tabs. In the Editor List dialog, you could add "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons which would move the corresponding editor windows to the front or the back.

why don't you integrate the commander as a plugin? if you do that, EVERY user can select if he drop or use the commander for himself!

Ctrl-Tab is, to my way of thinking and functioning, completely different
from Ctrl-E

My thanks go out to the author of the Tab-Switch plug-in. My fingers are
happy, and IDEA is just amazingly easier for me to use now. I use Ctrl-Tab
when oscillating between two files, and use Ctrl-arrow to go back and
forwards after following references, and occasionally Ctrl-E just to see a
list of "where I've been". They all have their distinct uses!

I just wish Ctrl-Tab were standard built-in functionality, but the plug-in
will certainly do!
