I've just stumbled on an old SCR that would be helpful NOW ...

http://www.intellij.net/tracker/idea/viewSCR?publicId=6013

visualize dependencies between packages (or classes).

this would be helpful NOW ... rather than generics or aspects which I
don't know when they're going to get in my production code!!!

JBuilder's first UML support did just this (in version 7?) and it did it
very well IMO with good filtering options etc.

Select the class or the package in the project viewer and press ALT-F7 (only
select "usage").
It works fine.

212 votes from 5 people....
compare that to:
aspectj 3256 votes, 104 people
generics 2184 votes, 66 people

imo, shouting can only decrease the probablity of a feature making it into
aurora...

I am working on a tool that does this, see

http://javacentral.compuware.com/pasta/ (free download)

No IDEA integration planned yet...

if anything, the voting show what an incredibly stupid idea it is to listen to the ignorant majority.

Certainly true for a sentence.
The only non-acronym all-capital word I used is "NOW" - I meant to
emphasize that - should have I used "now" instead ?

the thing is that everybody wants the features they have suggested now, and
the tracker is full of useful feature requests.
and the same time the guys to a great job and we see a lot of these features
implemented in the new eap; in other words, patience...

(btw, i don't like the tone of my comment either, but i guess i couldn't
hold it yesterday... i apologize)

yep - but sometimes, "lobbying" for a feature that has not been
discussed recently refreshes minds and may have others join ...

you know in XP the customer can always change his mind,
then, of course, we'd all wish there were customers that implement
changeMind() as a nop while fully implementing the contract for pay()
.... ;)

cheers,
Edo

Ha! Glad someone finds it funny instead of offensive ;)
I'll probably be posting a big IDEA blog entry on http://www.freeroller.net/page/fate/ soon, so make sure you avoid it if you are easily offended!
