synchronisation happening randomly.

I working on a large project right now which includes about 20,000 files. Frequently after I update or commit even a single file, synchronisation kicks and Intellij 6.0.4. hangs for anywhere between 5 seconds and a 1 minute. This is on an otherwise lightly loaded quad xeon workstation with a fast SCSI harddisc.

I love intellij, but I just can't tolerate the random way synchronisation starts and then stops me working. Is there any way to turn on logging of some sort so that I can see what directories synchronisation is actually synchronising.
