Showing all errors

Hello, I'm new to IDEA. I'm a long time Codeguide user but they really screwed up with version 8, so where I am. I did really like Codeguides source analysis features, I can't seem to find the same functionality in IDEA 6. For instance, when I open a project is there any way to have the app analyze all of the source code for errors? I can only get it to either look at a single file when I open it or give me errors when I try to build. Also, is there any way to just display the javac errors in a dialog of its own? CG had this feature and it made it really easy to just go down the list, click on the error, open the file and fix it. When the list was empty, you were done.

I am away from my IDE at the moment but there should be an Analyze drop down and there you can select Inspect Code....you should have settings to do so for the entire java project.

Inspect code seems to deal more with warnings than javac errors, at least from what I can see. Plus it is an extra step that must be run and takes around 30 seconds. I was hoping to find something that was more on the fly and worked globally. For instance if I type something incorrect in a java file Idea knows right away it is wrong. But if comment out a public method it won't pick up the error in classes that use that file till I open them or build the project. And even once it does find all the errors I can't get a list of all errors, just the ones found by javac even though the editor can see more errors. I.e. build would find an error in class A and might stop without finding errors in classes B and C, so I have to build over and over again to get all the errors, which reminds me of the old command line days.

What you are searching for is better supported in the IDEA 7 (not yet
officially released, but you can try EAP builds).
