I remember there was a request in the tracker to enable project renaming but it didn't have much votes...
Surely project renaming is just quitting IDEA, renaming the .ipr and .iws file and then restarting IDEA?
On the subject of project management, it would be really nice if IDEA could offer to reload the project when a CVS update has updated the .ipr file. Would that be possible?

This is a constant headache for us. If you don't remember to close idea before updating, then you walk over the updated changes. And since idea seems to /always/ write the ipr file (at least for us), you must always do a diff to see what has changed. And 99 times out of 100, you have to be careful to not checkin the ipr file. (Our project ipr files are in the 300's version number.)

So is there a "dirty" way to do this (rename / copy) that I can use?

Yes, just close IDEA and then you can copy/rename/move project files.
