I just played a little bit with it (with #802): - the new project window does not close (#10219) in Aqua L&F - graphic problems that might as well be JDK related:
after creating a new project the text in the first New Class dialog
the text is upside down (I not sure if this is reproducable)
when creating the initial JDK 1.4.1 for the new project, the
paths were not shown properly in the select file dialog: directory names were abreviated like bi... This is now gone (but maybe only because I changed the default font to Lucida). - I still can't type @ on a german keyboard. PLEASE: Even if you do not plan to fully support Mac L&F (e.g. menubar at the top) anytime soon, having a these characters back would be great. I am so tired of typing br]]> (my template) to be able to work with arrays. More comments to come as soon as I am working on my next programming project.
Finally: definetly the best looking IDEA ever!
Is there some tuning guide for Mac OS available that explains all the little tweaks that are possible (changing settings to make it run more smoothly?)
One issue I'm experiencing is very faint text in the editor window. Changing anti-aliasing settings or editor fonts doesn't seem to help that very much. Other than that it's much faster than the DP's which is a real joy to see, and on the whole seems to run rather smoothly.
You can't set that, if you do IDEA will show only the File menu and that's it. IntelliJ needs to do much work now to get the OS X folks caught up with the rest of them. There are a few bugs out there which are important, some I've reported, which are in the open mode and have not been touched! IntelliJ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get to fixing those now. It would be greatly appreciated.
I personally would not try 80x on anything OS X until the 69x type builds are running correctly. This would include, but not limited to: - Proper handling of tabs - Proper handling of font aliasing - Proper handling of file paths when run/debugging applications. - Make sure that all popup windows actually use the proper meta keys for copy, paste etc... right now you have to sometimes use ctrl +c other windows work right with command + c.
Well considering that much of the package structure for the mac has changed, I'm not surprised. I think we need to give the IntelliJ folks a chance to fix things and adjust.
Second I didn't say it's not working, it works quite well actually minus little annoyances, and it quite zippy if I might say so. So use it with 69x, 80x has it's own problems don't compound your exprience by using a newly released JDK, which DOES have bugs, with a new build of IDEA which also has bugs. You won't know who to blame what on.
What about fonts in general? The insertion point and highlight don't seem to line up with the characters, some characters seem to be displayed in bold... are these known issues?
And how do I set the JDK paths? MacOS X does not keep things in the same place as Windows.
yeah known issue in the JDK which they didn't fix yet. The thing is though if you use Monaco you don't have that problem at all. It's crisp and on the mark.
There was until eap build 802 came out. Here is what you can do, go to where you download the 802 build, copy the link for the OS X download and replace 802 with 694. It should download what you need.
Yes, please fix the [], {} issue with German keyboards. Interestingly, I can type any alt-modified characters in Idea in a text field. The text editor does not allow me to do so, though.

It is the same problem with a French keyboard on MacOSX (from 2.6 to lattest 802 build). Please fix this stopship bug asap as IDEA is not usable.

One could look at the JEdit MacOSX plugin and see how they set things up to use the main menu - afaik Krisk and Slava have it all working quite nicely...
It's not that they can't do it, it's that they haven't had a chance to do it. There already is a bug filed against it, and I'm sure Vladimir (or whom ever is responsible for that piece) will get it fixed.
In 804 the fixes which have been done already have been merged and 804 is looking nicer and nicer on the Mac, so it's coming and it's coming fast.

How do you set system properties?
I want to set apple.laf.useScreenMenuBar="true"

Thanks, over all this is a pretty zippy JDK.
so you're saying it won't work with 80x nor 69x...
that's totally disappointing considering how long the betas of jdk1.4.1 for osx have been around....

Just my opinion
