IDEA VCS

OK, here is stupid me. I was deleting all files from the Starteam that are
not "In View", because my coworker recently deleted and renamed a lot of
files and I had a lot of obsolete files on my machine checked out. Finally I
deleted the file that I just created in IDEA and was editing. I could not
get why java cannot find my class, I took a look and there was no class
file. I looked in the directory and my .java file is gone.

Thing is, that IDEA kept the file contents in its cache for a while and was
showing me the page. It even allowed to compile my project without actual
file on disk (or it just seemed to me?) Anyway, the moment I realised that I
erased my own new file, IDEA also lost track of it. And I cannot restore it
using local VCS because there is no file.

What can be done? If it is unrecoverable, do you guys plan to implement
additional features to protect fools like me from deleting their own code?

Thanx,
Michael.

We've had similar situations too and Local VCS has always helped to recover the files.
Just open the LVCS history on the directory where the deleted file was and you'll be able to recover the file.

I've always underestinmated the value of LVCS.
But yesterday evening I untarred an archive that overwrote almost a full
day of work, not checked in yet .... thanks to LVCS I got it back. IDEA
saved my day.

I can't find the words ....
