Tabs over spaces, including arrow navigation

Hi there,

Being new to webstorm, running on a trial atm... could someone please tell me if it is possible to set the ide to use tabs in all respects?

Currently i have the ide set to:
settings > code style > default indent options >  use tab character = checked
settings > code style > default indent options >  smart tabs = unchecked
settings > code style > default indent options >  tabs size = 4
settings > code style > default indent options >  indent = 4
settings > code style > default indent options >  continuation indent = 8
settings > code style > default indent options >  detect and use existing file indents = unchecked

With the above settings, a tab press results in 4 spaces... which subsequently results in having to press the left arrow four times to get back to the start of the "tab"

I am coming from Komodo edit (and others) where a tab is a tab, you can set the size of the tab character but it is not converted into spaces...

Is there a setting i am missing to do this?

Thanks,
John

Hi there,

1) Each language can override defaults (e.g. "Code Style | JavaScript")

2) Any .editorconfig files in your project (even in parent folders (above the project root))? If yes .. and if support is enabled (AFAIK it is by default), then they will have priority over IDE settings.

Blimey ok, i thought the default would be to have the master setting for all.. then allow the devloper to fine tune as they went along.

That wasn't that fun to go through all the different file types..

Cheers though,
John

It would work as you have thought only if individual language settings would have some sort of "override defaults" box -- but unfortunately they do not.

P.S.
You can always submit new ticket to the Issue Tracker (but check fo possible existing tickets first in IDEA and IDEABKL projects as well.
