'Enter' key != 'Ok' press.

Hi all,

For some dialog boxes (e.g. 'Evaluate Expression' while debugging) when I type text and press the enter key, IDEA sends the caret to the next line instead of treating it as if 'Ok' was clicked. This does not happen for other functionality such as Search, Open Class (Ctrl+N), etc. It does happen for 'Evaluate Expression', 'Introduce Variable', among others. I could not find anything in the vast array of options in IDEA for this kind of behavior and no one on my team has this problem. Anyone else come across this kind of issue?

Thanks!

Ctrl+Enter works for all dialogs

Hello Vishal,

That probably means "Evaluate expression" in statement mode actually, where
you can type in a code snippet to evaluate. Switch to expression mode and
Enter should work as expected.

Thanks for your replies.

Maxim,
I am debugging in 'Expression Mode' and not in 'Code Fragment Mode'. I see a text field and not a text area. This doesn't just happen for expression evaluation.

Dmitry,
I tried CtrlEnter, but it doesn't do anything. What I have to do (if I want to stick to the keyboard) is hit CtrlTab which changes the focus from the text field to the read-only text area for the results and then hit Tab again to change focus to the 'Evaluate' button and then hit Space.

By the way, I am using version 4.5.

Thanks for your input.
