Unable to add jdk in linux

Hi,
I have a linux box with some NFS file systems. Seems like when I add jdk in IDEA it scans all the file systems and scanning the complete NFS filesystem will take huge amount of time. Is there a way to add the jdk configuration manually by editing some files? or is there a way to let IDEA search only specific directories for jdk?

Thanks,
Dash.

It's best to install the JDK locally.

Thanks for the reply Keith. I have installed the jdk locally, but idea still looks for them in the entire system. I am not able to restrict the search to local directory. It hangs the moment I click on "add jdk" icon.

Why is it looking for them? I just click the + icon and choose a folder,
it never searches my drives.

I am not sure why it is looking for them. My only guess is that it is resolving children of all the top level directories and that is also going to take long time. Unfortunately I cannot unmount the nfs directory as my home directory is on that filesystem.

I just figured out that the jdk info is stored in options/jdk.table.xml file. I will just manually edit that file and go ahead with my coding.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Well, I was a bit too wishful. I added the jdk manually by editing the jdk.table.xml and then it got stuck while creating the project :(

Is there some way to trace which file IDEA is trying to load?

Thanks,
Dash.
