did you configure the path mappings for xdebug in phpstorm?

try to open your website by adding ?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=PHPSTORM to your address

Yep, my path mapping is setup as per the attachment below (but dont think this is the issue cause I dont think a tcp connect is working)

I still have same issue when I pass XDEBUG_SESSION_START as GET param :(

Oh interesting.. if i type out the full name of the URL /index.php instead of only /, it works

This is going to be a problem for my site as it depends on SEO friendly urls and alot of rewriting is done to /index.php  :(


Is there any possible workaround so that if i try to access /electronics/cameras.html for example, it will always debug with the rewritten url - /index.php?category=electronics&... etc? appending the GET param above to every rewrite occurance i guess would work

PhpStorm works just fine with "SEO friendly URLs / rewritten URLs" -- I do this all the time (more than 10 sites, different URL structures; both Apache and IIS 7.x) and have no issues at all. Most likely it is your configuration issue (xdebug, Apache ... or maybe even PhpStorm).

I see you have Suhosin patch installed. Try without it -- in the past I saw few topics where removing it solved the debugging issues (maybe proper configuring can do the same -- not sure -- it was quite long time ago when I saw those topics).

Ive done alot of tests now with the debugger and have determined Suhosin patch isnt the problem.  My problem was I was stupidly adding the cookie to the wrong document. Everything works great now with Rewritten URLs.

I've got the same problem and it is not XDebug and it is not Wampserver

I know because I can debug just fine in Netbeans 8.  Netbeans 8 however is not a perfect solution for php because it does not do a good job of code completion and other such things so I am evaluating other IDEs.  I enjoyed using IntelliJ before so I thought I would start here.

This is PHPStorm's problem.  After installation where it asked me about my web server and php environment I noticed that the new project I created did not contain these settings.  I put them in and tried to debug.  It recognized xdebug and everything in my php folder but it still does not jump to breakpoints when I debug.  Same settings Netbeans was using and no netbeans was not still running.  I restarted the server and same thing.  Shut down phpstorm and then debugged with netbeans no problem.  To summarize, php breakpoints work in netbeans but do not work in phpstorm.

Update: I got breakpoints to stop but the page is not launching in the browser now.  It behaves as though it was throwing the page up in the browser but then losing track of it before when it showed it was "connected" because no breakpoints would be hit.  Now it acts as though it is connected but does not fire up the browser with the connected php page so I cannot interact with it.  Again, this works fine in Netbeans with minimal fuss.  I'm off to evaluate Zend Studio next.

Update: Zend studio works pretty much out of the box with the exception that I had to set up XDebug as my debugger because it defaults to Zend which is no surprise.  I really would like to evaluate phpstorm as well before making my decision to purchase but debugging with breakpoints is a deal breaker for me.  As a developer I don't want to spend my time fiddling with an IDE I just want it to work with as little fuss as possible.  If too much configuration is required the IDE should offer installation options or pushbutton configurations that satisfy the simplest configuations like these other IDEs (Netbeans and Zend Studio) do.
