Deployment configuration. Remote files are read-only.

Hi, I'm trying to apply changes in some file from the local copies to the remote ones. I've configured the deployment window using sftp and everything works fine. I can synch files in both directions (local-remote and remote-local) but i'm not able to apply changes when I'm in the "Difference viewer" window.
To remote files the word "read-only" is appended so I can only apply changes from the remote to local.

The help page state "Note: The remote files in the Difference Viewer have the status read-only. This means that you cannot update them directly in the Difference Viewer. Make all the necessary changes to the local version of the file in question and upload the updated file to the server"

Is it a default behaviour or am I missing something in the settings window? Is there anything I can do to make the remte files writable? and if not, why? That would be very useful to me since many time I have to inspect files line by line and only apply certain changes.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Is it a default behaviour or am I missing something in the settings window?

You are NOT missing anything.

Is there anything I can do to make the remte files writable?

No

and if not, why?

Because when performing deployment, IDE operates with whole files ONLY.

It's also the same reason why IDE does not work with files directly over (S)FTP -- you have to download & edit local file which then can be re-uploaded to remote location (could be configured to performed automatically on Save).

This is also done for "safety reasons": after editing local file (or applying changes to local file in difference viewer window) IDE is able to check local file and identify any possible bad edits / incomplete merging etc. In case if it would have been done on remote file directly, it would not be possible.
