Our company recently upgraded from IDEA 4.5 to IDEA 5. I am currently running both apps on my mac (1.25 GHZ G4 with 2 GB RAM). I was running IDEA 5 on its own for a while, and I found it to be painfully slow. I fired up IDEA 4.5 and started editing a file with the same contents as the one I was editing in IDEA 5. The difference in performance was profound. The file size is approximately 200 lines. In IDEA 5, I can barely type because of all the pauses. I have closed all other files except the one that I am editing. I have hidden all extraneous views (Projet, Structure, Ant Build, Find, TODO, etc, etc), but the performance doesn't change. I have turned off a number of Error checks (mostly the ones specific to 1.5), but that has had no impact either. I just rebooted, and my machine is obviously not bogged down with other processes, because IDEA 4 is working just fine. I also tried setting the autoparse delay to 500ms, but that still doesn't seem to have any impact. Keystrokes are still being processed incredibly slowly, even when I hold down one key and let the repeat kick in. Short of profiling IDEA 5, what else might I try?
