JSP editor too slow

Here's my typical experience editing JSPs in 4.5
- type half a dozen characters as quickly as I can
- watch IntelliJ jerkily print those characters on the screen, unable to keep up with me
- wait four seconds while 4.5 and the cursor then freeze, making all typing impossible
- IntelliJ wakes up, cursor is blinking again
- repeat

This was bad in 3.0.5, but it is worse in 4.5. For all but the smallest JSPs I've given up and edit JSPs in TextPad, thus losing IntelliSense which was one of the main reasons for buying IntelliJ.

Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

And no, it isn't synchronization, I have that turned off and do alt-ctrl-y when I need it.

I also have 1 Gig and a 3MHz 64-bit Athlon, so it isn't my hardware either. Let's not even get into diskspace.

Thanks,

Hi,

Please, post SCR to tracker with more exact description: jsp fragment,
what place, etc
Thank you in advance.

FWIW, I am not seeing any such slowdown with the latest build of IDEA
4.5.1 running on Windows XP Pro (SP1) with a 3GHz P4 and 1GB of memory.

I have some fairly large JSP files (some over 1300 lines) with JSTL,
custom tags, scriptlets, jsp includes, javascript, html, css, etc. that
are part of a WebLogic web application with a dependency on another Java
module.

So it's most likely something configuration related.

I had this problem too. I turned off Jasper validation (on top of J2EE Build Settings tab). The problem went away.

Unfortunately I already have this turned off, so that is not the cause of the problem in my case.

Have the same issue. Are your files on a network drive? See this issue here http://intellij.net/tracker/idea/viewSCR?publicId=33219 .
One solution I have found is to setup your jsps as a plain java module, rather than as a web module. You lose all the tag stuff, but still get auto completion etc, with normal speed!
