Connectivity issue between PhpStorm and xdebug

Hello,
I can't configure integrating XDebug with phpStorm 7.1. When I start debug phpStorm waiting for incoming connection ..., in started web browser in addressbar is filled: .../?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=14439, but with white page try to connect to server. Log file on Ubuntu was not created.

my configuration is:  PhpStorm on 120.12.1.100 (Windows)  and Apache/PHP on 120.12.1.120 (Ubuntu 12.04)
It is on local network.

I have installed xdebug and have enabled extension and its paremeters:
zend_extension="/usr/lib/apache2/modules/xdebug.so"
xdebug.remote_enable=1
xdebug.remote_host=120.12.1.100
xdebug.remote_log="/var/log/apache2/xdebug.log"

According to webhelp I should set in Project settings:
Deplyment: I should add server type 'Local or mounted folder' ...
Settings/PHP/Interpreters: Debugger drop-down list is missing, I can't select XDebug.
And then in 'Run/Debug Cinfiguration - PHP Web Application' control debug is missing too.

Can anyone advice me?

Hi there,

Log file on Ubuntu was not created.

Check permissions on that path. Xdebug writes to the log before it attempts to connect to the client. Maybe grant full access to everyone there (temporarily, at least).

PhpStorm on 120.12.1.100 (Windows)  and Apache/PHP on 120.12.1.120 (Ubuntu 12.04)

Double check your Windows firewall (or whatever firewall software/hardware you may have -- router etc) -- make sure that PhpStorm can accept incoming connections on xdebug port (TCP 9000 is default one - check what you have in "Settings | PHP | Debug --> Xdebug | Debug port" as well as "Can accept external connections" is enabled (should be ON by default)).

1. Use "phone handle" icon to start listening for incoming debug connections (as described in http://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/PhpStorm/Zero-configuration+Web+Application+Debugging+with+Xdebug+and+PhpStorm )
2. Use netstat or similar command on Windows machine to check that PhpStorm is the one that listens on that port
3. From Linux machine -- use telnet to connect to Windows one on that port, something like

telnet
open 120.12.1.100 9000


When doing phpinfo() -- please use it in the page which you are trying to debug (so it will contain $_COOKIES and $_GET -- this will allow to see if xdebug debugging parameter is there).

In any case:

  • Try placing xdebug_break(); in your code to programmatically trigger breakpoint
  • Use xdebug.remote_autostart = 1 to instruct xdebug to attempt debugging session on every script execution / page view.
  • If you have already configured "Settings | PHP | Servers" then make sure that correct path mappings are set (local path vs remote one). Also note, that if symbolic links are used (on remote) then final/rela paths should be used as xdebug reports real paths ONLY. If it's not configured then leave as is (or even delete everything there) -- IDE will help configuring it when incoming connection will be detected.

According to webhelp I should set in Project settings:
Deplyment: I should add server type 'Local or mounted folder' ...

FTP/SFTP etc can also be used -- it is used for Deployment -- can also have none configured.

Settings/PHP/Interpreters: Debugger drop-down list is missing, I can't select XDebug.

You are trying to debug remote script -- setting local PHP interpreter / local debugging engine will NOT help here in any way.

And then in 'Run/Debug Cinfiguration - PHP Web Application' control debug is missing too.

Correct. The only place where you can specify remote debug engine is "Settings | PHP | Servers"

I always recommend using zero-config approach -- less configuration is required from IDE side: http://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/PhpStorm/Zero-configuration+Web+Application+Debugging+with+Xdebug+and+PhpStorm
