how to cvs ignore files already in cvs?

it seems to me that i can only cvs ignore a file if it has not been added to the repository yet. that means that i cannot choose to ignore files created by others. this seems very strange to me - i thought the whole idea of cvs ignore was to ignore some of the files in cvs. does anybody now a workaround for this problem? creating .cvignore file by myself does not seem to help....

thanks

I guess, this is not possible. The .cvsignore file always ignored only
files which are not under CVS control. At least, this was my impression.

Nope, the whole point of .cvsignore files are to make certain files
invisible to CVS.
