No valid license found prompt

Greetings. I'm a newbie to IDEA, so any help you have is appreciated. I recently uninstalled IDEA 4.0.2 and updated to IDEA 4.0.3. I now get a No valid license found prompt every time I try to run IDEA. There is no prompt for setting the license key. Further, I found that when I run %IDEAHOME%\bin\Inspection.EXE, I do get the normal license key prompt, but even when I enter a valid key, I still get the No valid license found prompt. Anyone have any clues on how to get through this? Thanks much.

The license should go in C:\Documents and Settings\[user
id]\.IntelliJIdea\system as idea.license. This assumes a windows
installation, but I would assume other OSs would be similar.

In 4.0.x. it is at: C:\Documents and
Settings\[userid]\.IntelliJIdea\config\idea40.key
assuming Windows install and you haven't changed idea.lax

It appears that my \config\idea40.key file is present and intact. What is funny is that builds 1174 and 1178 work fine, but that builds 1503 and 1504 do not. They both yield the No valid license found prompt.

I've sent in a help ticket through support. Hopefully this is either a known regression in a higher build, or something odd in my environment. If anyone can confirm my suspicion, IDEA licensing is implemented with FlexLM, correct? Just curious.

What are builds 1503 and 1504?? If they are EAP then you may need a different license off the EAP Member site. I've not seen those build numbers before. IDEA 4.0.3 came in two possible build numbers (depending on how early you downloaded it) - 1181 or 1182. I don't know what 1503 and 1504 are.

Matt, builds 1503 and 1504 are customized for Compuware and they use a
different license management scheme (FlexLM). This scheme does not use
idea.license or idea40.key. It uses a license.dat (or similar) file
which should be configured by a separate Compuware installer, not by the
IDEA installer. Check your IDEA log file, you should see a message that
starts with "License check-out failed".
In any case, you should contact the appropriate group at Compuware to
find out what's wrong with your license file. Off the top of my head,
it's probably not being found, possibly not configured previously or
maybe you moved or renamed the folder it's in. Unfortunately, I can't
help you much beyond that because the location is not configured or
known by IDEA.
