IDEA 4 and Tomcat 4.1.x

Hi,

With a major project behind my back, I'm about ready to upgrade to 4.0. The only thing that concerns me is tomcat integration. We are still running Tomcat 4.1.x here and only now starting considering transitioning to 5. With IDEA 3.0, I'm using a custom TomcatIntegration plugin for Tomcat 4.1 which I downloaded from here (I'm sorry, I forgot who the author was).

What's the level of support for 4.1.x in IDEA 4? If it's not officially supported, is there a custom plugin like there was for 3.0?

There's no offcifial support of Tomcat 4.1. Due to API changes the old Tomcat 4.1 plugin should be adapted in order to run with IDEA
4.0. However, the same functionality (starting/stopping Tomcat without JSP source-level debugging) , that plugin provided, can be
achieved by creating a simple Run Configuration.

You mention a simple run application. What is it? How can I set it up?

Thank you in advanced!

I meant an ordinary run configuration with main class name, classpath, VM and application parameters.
Use "Run | Edit configurations" and create an "Application" run configuration

IDEA 4 ships with a Tomcat plug-in installed. The Web Application Debugging Options help page describes setting up a Run configuration for deploying a web module and auto starting (and likely restarting/stopping) Tomcat.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get it to work properly, yet.
