Newbie in IDEA GUI designer

Hello,

I am sorry if this post is duplicate (I am sure you have seen similar
posts before), but I haven't been monitoring this group closely.

Is there a way to use a standard layout (GridBag for example) with GUI
Designer? If not (I think it is not) Is this planned?

As far as I know (I'm sure someone will correct me if wrong!) you can only
use IDEA's internal layout manager. Have to admit I'm not a fan of their
layout :( The reason I'm such a big fan of the excellent TableLayout
(ClearThought) is that it doesn't require layering of panels - I can pretty
much do a whole panel with a single layout manager. The IDEA one basically
resurrects layering of panels - each "lay out..." operation forms a group
(which is a panel). For more complex GUIs this can get very frustrating to
work with as you have to build up groups, then to make changes break them
down, then build them up again! I wish they had based their designer on
TableLayout, or the excellent JGoodies Forms layout, or even as you suggest
the GridBag layout. Maybe in the next version... :)

Cheers,

TicH
