Yes, I've tried it for a few hours. It looks nice, but the UI feels a
little clumsy in some areas. It's the first time I try XUL, but it took
me only a few minutes to knock a simple application - dialog with a text
area, which executes a line of javascript and displays the result in an
alert.
The XUL descriptions, used together with CSS look like a really powerful
technique for laying out content, though I haven't tried XBL (the
language for creating custom components)
