selecting specific text

Hello,

i am trying to migrate from textmate, and i am really looking for some basics in this skillful editor.

first is , how can i select inside the quotes ? In textmate it was defined in select current scope ( ctrl+alt+b )

and second is; how can i select inside the braces? i know that there is the move caret to block end/beginning with/without selection but it does not work with regular paranthesis " ( ) ".

and finally, how can i set the linux type of ctrl+d ( basically delete on windows i guess), i could not find the keymap setting for that.

thanks in advance

Hi there,

Please try Ctrl+W (Edit | Select Word at Caret) multiple times.

and finally, how can i set the linux type of ctrl+d ( basically delete on windows i guess), i could not find the keymap setting for that.

Sorry, not a Linux user and I do not know how it supposed to work. Please elaborate.

"Settings | Keymap" has search field, so searching for "delete" (or maybe even "remove") should bring all available actions with that word in it.

thanks, but directly selecting the scope of the brackets are not available then ?

also i have another question,

when i select two or more lines with partial selections like :

when i run the select line at caret, it naturally selects the line the caret is at. but in textmate, it was selecting all the lines even selected partially. so on textmate when i run select line for the situation above, it will select all lines in the picture.

is there a way to make it run like that?

WebStorm/PhpStorm (and any other IDE on IDEA platform) first of all is an IDE and then text editor, while TextMate/Sublime/etc is advanced text editor first and IDE later (if at all).

With single key/combo press -- I think no (but this has never bothered me -- I'm, personally, OK with current selection workflow in this regard).

I don't know, unfortunately. Never used "Select line at Caret" action myself -- I always use Shift+Arrow Up/Down do make such selections (or select with mouse -- over line numbers area).

Generally speaking: if you do find some missing functionality, feel free to submit Feature Request ticket to the Issue Tracker (providing good description/explanation) and if it will gain some noticeable votes it will be eventually implemented. But before submitting -- please check for already existing tickets to avoid duplicates here: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/IDEA

good point actually, never gave it a thought. but it's really fulfilling as an editor too, so nothing seems really far away for this editor. just can't believe it's abilities.
