Regarding the webappl.pft howto:

page 1: 'now you should explain...' is incorrect English. it should be something like 'you should specify in Tomcat where your web app...'

Instead of 'wrong settings' use 'incorrect settings'

'it will look as follows' -> 'you will see...'

page 2

there is a couple of sample contexts -> 'there are a couple of sample contexts

to later call your web app -> to invoke your web app

to identify unambiguously your web app -> to identify your webapp unambiguously and find its files

this part is necessary -> this step is required

we keep considering -> Assume your web app files are located...

page 5:

how to call your web application from browser -> how to call your web application from a browser

Sorry for being so picky, but it's feedback! Feel free to ignore it if you think it's too pedantic!

Thanks Hani! We'll look over the document again, and make changes where
necessary!

I've seen the doc (pdf) that's available, but specific and detailed info on refactoring would be really helpful. The current pdf is more of an overview or general intro. Personally, this is one area that I dont use too much and tend to refactor by hand, if for no other reason than I haven't had time to play with this area and/or I've seen bug reports on refactoring functionality going astray. Bugs notwithstanding, this seems to be where IDEA shines and I know that I and others could be putting this tool to better use if the refactoring functionality was explained in more detail with examples/screenshots, etc.

Hi,

Although the new How-To guides are a valuable addition to IDEA documentation, there are a couple of problems IMHO:-

1. Why are there three separate docs? I would think that one doc with three sections would be much more helpful.

2. Related to above - both the Servlet and JSP How-Tos make references to the web-app How-To. It is tedious to switch between multiple documents.

3. Where's the source code? It would be trivial to package up a little zip file to accompany the document. Thomas Fuhrer posted something like this to one of the forums a while ago - it worked "out of the box".

4. There is no explanation of how to get debugging working, particularly JSP debugging. Since most of the setup is already covered, I think a section on servlet/JSP debugging would be valuable.

For the record, I can't get JSP debugging to work - see exception below.

Hope this helps - I look forward to reading the revised version!

Regards,
Graham

And here - as promised - is the exception I get when trying to launch Tomcat in debug mode using the web-app described in the How-To (I'm using 3.0.3 on Win2K, using a standard Tomcat 4.0.6 build). I have checked the consistency of every single JAR file in the classpath and there are no problems...
