Change trailing white space trim behaviour?

Hi,

Is it possible to set the editor to only strip trailing whitespace for certain file types?

Or is it possible to change the character used to display white space after lines?

Basically in 99% of the files I edit I don't want trailing white-space. However it is syntatically meaningful in Markdown where it indicates hard line breaks.

Because of that I have to disable 'trim trailing whitespace' option for all files. However i also just can't really see the trailing whitespace markers as they're a single pixel, which is too small for me to see without peering at the screen closely.

So ideally, I'd like to be able to set the trim behaviour per file, failing that is it possible to set the trailing whitespace char to be something visible like a '' character ?

cheers
Dan

No.

The only suggestion I have is to make color for whitespace characters more contrast (lighter or darker, depends on theme used) compared to the background color.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried tweaking the color - however because the pixel dot is so small it makes almost no difference to that, but makes the tab markings be far too eye-catching.

cheers anyway
