SSH and CVS

All of the examples of using SSH and CVS with IntelliJ IDEA discuss
using a private/public key pair. I'm trying to use it without this
and simply enter a password from a prompt. However, I can't get
IDEA3.0.1 to accept a password. I've edited the idea.lax file to force
it to use the console, but when I fire up a CVS command nothing seems
to happen. Has anyone succeeded with this approach? I've set
my environment so that I can doa CVS command correctly from the command
line in WinXP, but the same command seems to stall out inside of IDEA.

Any suggestions?
