CVS / Idea 3.0: best practice for working with branches and release tags

Hello all,

I'm trying to integrate IJIdea 3.0 with a CVS repository. I can get a list
of modules from the "CVS Checkout" dialog box, but can't see how to select
branches or release tags. I imagine that I need to specify the "-r"
parameter in the "Additional options" textbox of the checkout dialog, but
don't want to get things wrong (I'd like to avoid messing up the repository,
as I don't know how IJ behaves when checking in branches and so on,
especially with regards to added/removed files).

Can anyone suggest best pratice for working with branches and release tags
with IJ Idea 3.0, as well as warning me of any pitfalls?
