major crash

Yesterday IDEA crashed royally on me, it wiped out all
the configuration files and the projects file. Not funny.

At some point it started popping up error messages saying
that it cannot save the project. Eventually I had to kill
the process. The config folder ended up completely empty,
the directory structure was there but no files. The project
file was gone as well. I had to reinstall IDEA and recreate
the project.

Checking the log file it seems that for some reason IDEA
run out of file handles and could not open any more files.

When saving the project is IDEA first deleting the existing
config files and then creating the new ones? That would be
a very bad strategy.

I was running IDEA 3.0, build 682, under Windows 2000. Here
is the list of plugins I had installed:
- Jython
- tomcatIntegration
- CodeFolder
- docPlugin
- imagepreview
- JavaDocEditorPlugin
- logtailer
- mcastchat
- PluginManager
- simpleUML_b12
- sqlviewer-1.0.4
- ToggleKeywordPlugin-1.0
- ToolbarManager
- tostring-plugin
- Workspaces

Did anybody else had a similar problem?

Thanks,
Marius

Maybe the reason is the same as for the config file removal in the below
slip, though with much heavier effects.
