Multiple collaborators on a project located on a network drive

Hi there!

I'm wondering if it's possible to have several people working on the same project? Now we're overwriting each others idea configuration over and over again. Is there a way to accomplish this? working on the same source code with locally save configuration files.

Best Regards Vic

Hi Victor,

How can you "overwriting each others idea configuration over and over again" when project is on network if you have "locally save configuration files"? Please explain what do you mean by "idea configuration" and the rest.

I'm wondering if it's possible to have several people working on the same project?

Yes. Use local copy of the project (so you do not interfere with other people's changes + for performance/stability reasons) and use any VCS to merge changes -- that's the most common and safe way when working in a team.

The approach you are using right now still may work (works fine most of the time, mostly when only one person is using it -- depends on your network and hardware + how many people participating and how often changes are made). PhpStorm relays on instant access to source files which can be problematic over network due to possible latency issues, which may result in random freezes/delays in code completion/not picking up changes made by another person etc.

My question was if it is possible to have local configuration files for a project which source code is located on a network drive. With "configuration files" I meant the files located in the .idea directory. I found a workaround (http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-343), so I have found my answer.
